Mountain Biking: If you are an adventure seeker, mountain biking is a great activity in this area.  Dirt roads around this location offer a different level of difficulty and give an opportunity to admire the scenery.

Bird Watching:  This area is bird haven which every ornithologist will appreciate and enjoy.

Photography: It is also a brilliant spot for lovers of landscape photography.

Camping: For children and young adults, tents put up in the Mahakaruna’s garden will be a fun way to enjoy the outdoors.  A tasty dinner at an open camp fire will be a memorable experience for the whole family. Please let us know, if you are interested in this activity.

Trekking: Some say that trekking is a must when you are in Nepal. You don’t have to go far, as the house is ideally located for beautiful day hikes. Pothana and the Australian Base Camp, with a full panorama of the Annapurna Range, are two hours away. Neighbouring villages of Majgaun, Tanchok and Patilikhet, with their friendly communities, are an interesting destination too.

It is an hour’s drive to Tanchok by Jeep or you can get there by public bus (one service per day leaving between 2 and 3 pm).

Provisions are widely available in Mahendrapul which is the nearest town in Pokhara city.

No, Mahakaruna is self catering but we can arrange for provisions to be delivered to you if you do not wish to travel to Mahendrapul to get them yourself.  Please see our daily rates on the pricing page for next day or even same day delivery.

No, the local chef, lives in a separate house in the grounds of Mahakaruna, and is always available to help as much or as little as you need during your stay. 

Yes, numerous places to explore and trek straight from Mahakaruna.

All the windows and doors are netted at Mahakaruna to keep insects out of the house and the accommodation is compounded with a wire surround to keep other wildlife away.

Safety of our guests is very important to us and it unusual for wild animals to come near the property but, for your reassurance, you can call upon our nearby local friend (who is also our local chef) to help and assist you at any time of the day or night.  This is all included in the price of your stay.
